Poetry Snap!
Have you ever heard of doing an open mic of sorts to read Poetry? This would be a super fun way to get kids excited about the poetry they read and/or write. Doing your own Poetry Snap is a cinch! If you have younger students, ask them to memorize one and then host the Snap during class time. Make sure to invite the parents! Set up your classroom with a mic, push the chairs and tables out of the way, and create a groovy atmosphere. Make sure to encourage snapping after each poem is read. Older students can get in on this too! They can write their own poetry and share it with their class in the same way.
This week, I wrote more about this topic on Katie Lyon's blog. There's one more idea over there that you'll for sure want to check out.
I made a Poetry Snap Invitation (word template) for you to customize. Click here to download it, make sure that when you open it in google docs that you go to file, then select download. From there, save it to your computer and then open it in Word. Enjoy!
