For every student who loves to write a short story, there is a student who will really struggle to get something on paper.  I find that some of their biggest challenges come when they don't take the time to plan out their story and don't take the time to create interesting characters, a setting and a clear problem.  
Here are two graphic organizers to help your students plan out the elements of a short story.
