Teaching "One More" and "One Less"
My class used to struggle with the concept of "one more" and " one less" until I started this daily routine with them! After we count the number of days we've been in school and show it on the place value chart, we figure out what would be one more and one less. Now that they can tell you those two numbers with their eyes closed, we've started to work on "ten more" and "ten less" using the chart below:
