How Do You Keep Track of Papers?

I have my students turn in papers into a hanging filing pocket chart.  However, the trouble is figuring out who has already turned in a paper and who is still working.

I have my students take down a magnet from the board right next to the pocket chart as soon as they turn in their paper.

That way, I can very quickly glance up to the board to see how many students are still working.
