Many years ago, I used to dread teaching coins to my second graders. Not only did they struggle to memorize the values of each coin, but actually counting the coins was often very difficult for them. Mostly because of having to transition from value to value (e.g., counting by 50's, to 25's, to 5's, and then to 1's). It was overwhelming for many of my kiddos.
