Winter Sentences using Sentence Frames.

For many struggling writers and ESL students, writing is such a difficult skill to learn. I find that teaching with sentence frames helps students learn the parts of a sentence and how to write them. Using themes helps students write because they have lots of words in their word bank to use.
I start with the parts of the sentence. I give each student a set of the cards below:

I cut up a sentence into parts and hold up each card. Then students hold up the sentence part card. That way I can assess every student at the same time. (put them in a pocket chart.)

Then I have them practice by unscrambling a sentence and illustrating it.
