Veteran's Day Patriotic Writing Prompts and Picture Graphing Activity

This is Linda here from Linda's Learning Loot. Last week, our school began preparing for our BIG Veteran's Day Program. It is a 30 minute program with a reception to honor relatives and friends who are serving or have served in our military. It is headed by one of our kindergarten teachers who has a big heart towards this very special holiday!! Every year, the program begins with the military friends and family parading in between students lined up waving little flags. Once they are in, everyone sits and we listen to each armed force song while the people who are representing the armed force stand. Then,  there are a couple of short speeches, and the children sing a song entitled, "Thank You". I tell you what....it brings sobs  a tear to my eyes!
After the program, the friends and family attend a little reception and the students who invited these friends and family get to attend, too.
It is a wonderful event!
One important thing we all do is get the halls decorated to show our patriotism to these people. There are wall flags displayed that are made from cut out paper handprints. First grade this year, did a cute army craftivity with a writing piece. There are many other wonderful artwork and writing posted on the halls throughout our building all related to Veteran's Day. This year, I did a writing prompt with a paper wreath that had die cut red, white, and blue stars. The students had to create a pattern around the wreath. The finished products turned out really cute:
For our Class Show Wall (this is located right outside our classroom door) my class also did this writing project:
After I got these projects clipped and taped to the walls, I decided to create a FREEBIE that has a couple of writing prompts and a picture graphing activity that will work very well with kindergarten or 1st grade. The writing prompts above are what inspired to create the ones in the product.
Just click on the product cover image above and it will take you straight away to this freebie.
Enjoy and Happy Veteran's Day!!
