Mayflower Diagrams
We are studying the early American colonies in my class right now, and the students love all of the information about the ships that carried the colonists to the new world. We have a hard time imagining 100 people (plus the crew) on a ship about the size of 2 school buses for over 60 days!
In order to visualize the ships a little better, we identified parts of the Mayflower ship then drew and labeled a cutaway diagram of the ship's features. This was a great activity leading up to spring break when students were not that focused on instruction (!), and it helped reinforce research skills, and we got some practice with proportion and scale.
Click Here to download the Mayflower Ship Parts Handout (with teacher notes) and have your students make their own Mayflower ship diagrams.
Happy Diagramming!
