Tic-Tac-Toe is a classic game that I played frequently with my sister to pass the time. Of course, we both became pretty good at "stratigizing" (if you can really call it that) and ultimately our games were almost always a tie.
Years and years and years (whew!) later I have added an academic twist to this classic game for my own children. (I love their sighs... "you can tell mom is a teacher... she has to make everything educational.")
For this fun game, I first print and laminate all the cards so students can write on them with a wipe off marker. Then I have students pair up and play the tic-tac-toe game. However, in order to get a space to place either their X or their O, they must answer the math problem correctly!
Students play until they have completed a board. The person who completes the board and wins gets the task card. This continues until all the task cards are completed. The winner of the game is the player with the most task cards!
Here is a visual of 4 different task cards:
Students love this activity and it's a great way to practice those all important facts they need to learn!
