Effective Ways to Say No

One of the hardest lessons I taught my students was an effective way to tell me they disagreed with me, and why respectfully. All too often students just want to go home and complain. I would teach my students that for the rest of their lives they were going to have to talk with people in authority positions – they needed to learn to respectfully disagree and provide better information to support their reasoning in a disagreement. By doing this it becomes possible for a dialogue to occur and it opens up potential for a more positive decision making process. So often students think they can only argue their point. What we are going to show is a method where an individual can express themselves in negative situations and not become disagreeable. When these lessons are learned, it tends to give a person more confidence and improves their self-esteem. It helps them to establish boundaries and get better control of their life.

Learning Techniques of saying NO demonstrates the potential of reaching common goals without fighting or learning that saying No won’t hurt your cool factor.   Some people call this negotiating 101. Every successful sales person learns how to get from a NO to YES.
